UPCOMING EVENT: Don Sawchuk Friday Concerts
Two Friday Evening Concerts at St. George’s Square July 5th & 19th in support of local initiatives
Guelph artist Don Sawchuk and The Underdog Band will be appearing at two concerts on Friday, July 5th and July 19th at 5:00 p.m. in St. Georges Square. The shows are all for a good cause and will support two outreach efforts that assist the less fortunate in the community: The Drop In Centre and the Breezy Corners “Buy A Breakfast for Someone Who Can’t” campaign.
There will also be a cheque presentation to the Drop In Centre representing the funds Don raised by busking at two Guelph Storm games on their way to the OHL Championship. Although the concerts are free, Don will harken back to his busking roots yet again and solicit donations for the Breezy Corners “Buy A Breakfast for Someone Who Can’t” campaign and the Drop In Centre.
SINGER SONGWRITER INITIATIVE
In addition to the St. George’s Square Evening Concerts, this Fall, Don will host a Singer-Songwriter showcase for ten Saturday Afternoons beginning in September at 4:00 p.m. at Breezy Corners. There will be no cost to register, and it will be a great opportunity to showcase Guelph and Areas singer-songwriters to one another and to the community.
Songs will be judged on lyrics, music/melody, and audience response. The Grand Prize for the contest is a recording session with renowned Canadian producer JK Gulley, and includes preproduction, a full band of musicians, and a guaranteed world-wide release on Trilogy Records International (which is distributed by the world’s leading digital distributor, The Orchard). There will also be a number of other awards for runners up.
Concert goers will be able to make donations to the pay-what-you-can jar, and all proceeds will be shared between the Breezy Corners breakfast campaign and the Drop In Centre.
